Ocean of plastic :

A 54 minutes long documentary about plastic in the ocean. Language in it is mixed with mostly english & some swedish (of whitch most important is sloppy translated due to done on the run while watching and to long for me to make a proper translation)

starts with waters around los angeles, plastic found as deep as 1000 m, plasic in net to float planebody-boat is made from plastic found in north America.

80 different whales have had accidents with plastic + examples. 4 out 5 plastic found in ocean comes from stuff trown from land. 300 marine species have been hurt by plastic. scentist got respons from 8 countrys, 8000 seabirds had plastic in tummy and belived half of earth sea-birds eaten plastic.

1920-ish a english nobleman got idea to take plankton test sice then and so scientists could follow how plankton thrived in the english channel & north atlantic.map of where tests been taken durng almost 100 y.

Marcus plastic-junk sail has been followed by many. it took 3 months to reach hawai.

trash cirkulate with the big sea-currents for at least 10 y and trash from states join trash from asia, some end up in hawai but most end up in a still zone of unknowed size in the middle. everything, even mirosopical lifeform is hit by plastic. There’s not ONE un-hit area of ocean!

only 5 % of plastic made is re-cycled, infrastructure can’t coop with huge difference come.

Marcus & Annas next problem is to cycle coastline.

project in france started 10 y ago with bags, about 2 millions/year, made out of starch instead of plastic for organic desposial and decomposes with food despocial within 3-4 weeks and is returned to farmers.

Marcus (on lecture) wonders what effect has other kemicals put to plastic?
sweet water snail react fast, work as warning-bells. material snails reacted to is found in plastic. scietists have started to realise that plastic in ocean gives off chemical substanses and we don’t know what effects that will lead to.

studies of fin whale, the next largest whale, tries to answer by taking samples on fat tissue to see if it gotten chemicals in it and they had but what effect that will get on whale is still unknown.

german scientist was shocked by find and wondered if our human food is affected also and put snails in waterbottles bought in foodshop for 4-8 weeks.

couple with baby is leaving blood sample to check if humans also are affected. fertility scientist checks if plasic affects. she checked if newborn boys with high concentration of plastic chemical ftalat i pee was affected. in animal it’s found that males have been “femalisated”/more phycal close to females/less male and same she (scientist) checks for in human babys, with SAME result! blood-samble family is given result and dr tells that all in our generation, but NOT generations before us, now have bpa, and in american study also ftalater (feminising) in our blood!

“plastic-vd” keeps repeating there are no alternatives, wee can’t live without it and it’s not dangerous and if found otherwise scientist found it are unreliable and media fooled and just scare us unnessisary. :-/
